Abstract

290,458. Gravell, J. H. June 24, 1927. Cleansing-compositions.-A cleansing composition for iron and steel comprises a mixture of an acid, an oil solvent, an adhesive, and a control agent to prevent the acid from attacking the cleaned surface. The acid may be phosphoric acid, the oil solvent ethyl or butyl alcohol or both, the adhesive, size, starch or glycerine, and the control agent quinoline, pyridine, arsenious oxide, formaldehyde or thiocyanates. In an example the mixture is formed by mixing together three solutions, the first containing phosphoric acid, water, ethyl alcohol, which may be denatured, butyl alcohol, and sodium thiocyanate, the second a solution of gelatine in water and the third, sodium hydroxide, arsenious oxide and water.
