Abstract

525,313. Winding yarns. ABBOTT MACHINE CO. Feb. 17, 1939, No. 5333. Convention date, Feb. 28, 1938. [Class 120 (ii)] In a yarn winding machine of the type having a spindle for holding a rotary winding element, which spindle can be positioned either in a winding position or an inactive position, a portion of the spindle has a concave surface forming an external bearing for the rotary winding element which has a portion rotatably fitting and turning in frictional contact with the concave surface; unwindng of the yarn when the spindle is in the inactive position is thereby suppressed. As shown in Fig. 2 the stationary spindle 11, 11a, is mounted on the pivoted arm 12 and has a portion 22 which embraces a part 20 of the bobbin 18a forming an external bearing ; the other end of the bobbin has a portion 24a of reduced bore which forms an internal bearing on the spindle. In the form shown in Fig. 1 the stationary spindle 11, 11a has a loose sleeve 16 mounted thereon, one end of which is embraced by the annular projection 20 of the spindle element 11a to form an external bearing, a fibre washer 21 being interposed: the other end of the sleeve has a tubular inset 24 which forms an internal bearing on the spindle 11. T-shaped spring members 31 with central projections 32 serve to locate the bobbin 18. Specifications 459,357, 459,413, 459,414, 459,429 and 459,430 are referred to.
