Abstract

524,956. Closures for bottles and like containers. WHITE, W. P. Feb. 10, 1939, No. 4493. [Class 125 (iii)] A closure cap for sealing bottles and like containers comprises a shell with a top portion and a depending annular skirt which is of flaring form in its lower portion and a sleeve gasket of electrically deformable sealing material within the shell with its periphery lying against the lower flaring portion of the skirt and its upper margin spaced from the top portion of the shell, the skirt having an inwardly projecting abutment spaced below the top portion of the shell and spaced above the upper end of the gasket for limiting the upward displacement of the gasket in the shell. The closure cap may be used in conjunction with a bottle or like container having a sealing surface about its mouth portion and an outwardly projecting ledge below the sealing surface, this ledge being provided with upwardly extending narrow projections spaced apart from one another around the circumference of the container. The closure cap shown in Fig. 1 comprises a shell with a top portion 10 and a depending annular skirt 11. A gasket 12 is contained in the lower portion of the skirt 11a which is of flaring form and which terminates at a narrow inturned flange 11b. The upper portion of the skirt is fluted to form inwardly jutting portions 14. In Fig. 5 the closure cap is shown in position on a bottle V with a sealing surface S and a peripheral outstanding ledge 15 provided with a plurality of upwardly projecting lugs 16.
