Abstract

524,582. Vaginal tampons. POPPER, O. Feb. 1, 1939, No. 3409. Convention date, Oct. 18, 1938. [Class 81 (ii)] A vaginal pack comprises an elongated pad 3 of absorbent material and an externally smooth enclosure 2 which is sufficiently rigid to permit the pack to be positioned in the vaginal cavity and is formed with a longitudinal gap 4 so that the end of the pad 3 may be held stationary in position by a finger while the enclosure 2 is withdrawn by pulling the projecting portion 19. During insertion the pad is held in position in the enclosure by a lateral projection 20 formed thereon. The pad is provided with a cord 21 for withdrawal and the end of the enclosure which is inserted in the vagina is wedge shaped and rounded to conform with the vaginal wall. The width of the gap 4 is made slightly smaller than the width of a finger which thus on traversing the enclosure during withdrawal causes its expansion. The enclosure may be constructed as described in Specification 524,581.
