[Class 36] In a flexible multicore electric cable, such as a trailing cable, having a number of insulated main cores provided with a metallic screening and an insulated pilot core, the pilot core is surrounded by a reinforcing screen of non-metallic, tough and flexible material such as whip cord, or stranded textile material, or strips, cords &c. of cellulosic material. The pilot core with its screen is built up to substantially the same diameter as the metallic screened main cores. The main cores 1 may be surrounded with dielectric 2 such as soft rubber, a tough rubber sheath 3, tape winding 4 and a metallic screen 5 of Cu wire &c. The pilot core may be surrounded by dielectric 7 of soft rubber &c. whipcord 8, tough rubber 9, and tape winding 10. An earth conductor is located centrally between the cores, and the whole is enclosed by a tough rubber sheath 12. In other forms, the whip cord 8 may be immediately against the core 6, or have tough rubber on either or both sides and the metallic screens 5 may be applied directly over the normal insulation of the cores 1 with no tough rubber on either side.
