Abstract

523,031. Lubricating. TECALEMIT, Ltd. Dec. 22, 1938, Nos. 37325 and 37326. Convention dates, Dec. 24, 1937, and Nov. 29, 1938. [Class 12 (iii)] An engine having a lubricating circuit communicating with the crankshaft of the engine and a pump for circulating the main flow of oil in the circuit, has, for ensuring and assisting the lubrication, a container for hot oil and means independent of the lubricating pump, associated with the container and adapted to be operated at will for discharging the hot oil from the container to the crankshaft. As shown, ,an oil pump 17 supplies the bore 14 of a crankshaft 15 with oil from a reservoir 18. A container 10 is connected by a pipe 23 to a chamber 16 leading to the bore 14 and by a pipe 22 to a source of air pressure. The container has a piston 11 and valves 24, 28 on the side remote from the pipe 23 permit air pressure or atmospheric pressure to act on the piston. In operation, just before the engine is brought to rest, the valve 28 is opened and hot oil from the engine fills the container 10. If the container 10 is permanently fixed in position it is provided with a source of heat and is covered with heat insulating material. Otherwise it is removed and placed in a holder which is heat insulated and provided with means to keep the oil warm. When it is desired to start up the engine again the container 10 is replaced in its working position, and the valve 24 is open so that the hot oil in the container is forced into the crankshaft 14. A non-return valve 29 is placed between the pump 17 and the chamber 16 to which the pipe 23 is connected. In a modified construction of container 10 the piston 11 is omitted and float-operated valves control the inlet of compressed air and the outlet of oil.
