Abstract
522,623. Photographic photo-electric exposuremeters. BING, J. M. April 5, 1939, No. 10675. Convention date, Oct. 27, 1938. [Class 98 (i)] [Also in Group XL] An exposure meter comprises a casing 10, Fig. 2, having a rectangular front opening admitting light to a rectangular photo-electric cell 12 receding downwardly from the opening and a cover 13 for the opening, which cover when in the open position shown in dotted lines extends outwardly from the lower side of the opening to screen off from the cell light reflected by the near foreground, the cover in its open position and the inclination of the cell cooperating to determine the vertical angle of view of the meter, and the cell being connected to an electric measuring instrument having a pointer visible at the top of the casing. The cover may pivot on screws 14 and may have side wings 13<SP>1</SP> which fit inside or outside the walls of the casing when the cover is in the closed position. The cover may be held in closed, open, and intermediate positions by yielding catches. A smaller opening may be provided in the cover and closed by a flap 26, Fig. 5. The cover may comprise two separate pieces, Fig. 8, one 35 hinged at the bottom of the opening and the other 36 at the top of the opening, the two parts being coupled together by links 37, 38. The top of the casing may be fitted with a circular calculating scale for converting light values determined by the measuring instrument into photographic factors. As shown in Fig. 1, a rotatable disc 20 is marked on one side with a scale 21 of diaphragm apertures coperating with the pointer 24 of the instrument and on the other side with a scale 22 of shutter speeds co-operating with a scale 23 of film speeds on the " Scheiner " system. Two sets of readings are provided on this scale to take into account two different measuring ranges or sensitivities of the mstrument. Alternatively for the same purpose, this scale is marked on an adjustable slidable arcuate element.
