[Class 97 (i)] Apparatus for building-up optical projection apparatus comprises a base member and a number of units of such form and character that they may be assembled in various horizontal and vertical positions relative to one another and the base to form different kinds of projection apparatus, the assemblage being stable without the use of securing or connecting devices. Fig. 1 shows a base member in the form of a rectangular framework having ledges 1c, 2c and rails or beadings 3c, 4c at the top and near the bottom for supporting the units on or in it. The units are generally in the form of cubical boxes which may be assembled side-by-side or above one another and variously oriented according to the form of apparatus desired. Fig. 17 shows an assemblage of four units on the frame, comprising an illumination unit a with lamp b and condenser c, an adjustable table or stage a<SP>5</SP> for carrying the object an image of which is to be projected, a reflecting and projecting unit a<SP>2</SP> with objective c<SP>2</SP> and mirror d<SP>2</SP>, and a reflecting unit a<SP>1</SP> with mirror d' mounted above the unit a<SP>2</SP>, in addition, a unit comprising a translucent projection screen a<SP>4</SP> with front and rear light-shielding casings b<SP>4</SP>, c' is used. The apparatus may be used for diascopic or episcopic projection and may be arranged for the demonstration on the screen of scientific experiments and industrial processes and apparatus. Units for kinematographic projection may also be used. Illumination units for episcopic projection are illustrated, that shown in Fig. 16, comprising a supporting member a<SP>7</SP> to which is hinged a slotted support b' adjustable by a screw c<SP>7</SP> and carrying a lamp and a reflector e'.
