Abstract
521,883. Separating solid materials. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO., E. I. Nov. 30, 1938, No. 34919. Convention date, Nov. 30, 1937. Addition to 501,655. [Class 82 (ii)] In separating mineral, such as coal, from gangue, the material is first wetted with an aqueous solution of an active agent such as an emulsoid colloid or a glucoside, then washed with water, if desired, and the components are finally separated by immersion in a parting liquid which is immiscible' with water and has a specific gravity between that of the mineral and that of the gangue. The aqueous solution may contain 0À05 to 1À0 per cent. of active agent. The washing water may be collected and solids separated therefrom, additional active agents being then added to the water for use in wetting further mineral. The parting liquid, such as a halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbon, may be covered with water into which the mineral and gangue are introduced. Long lists of alternative active agents and parting liquids are given.
