Abstract

521,145. Magnets. HITCHCOCK, S. I. Oct. 7, 1938, No. 29183. [Class 35] The limbs of a permanent magnet, especially for use in a permanent magnet motor, are formed with a tapering cross section with concave sides. Fig. 4 shows such a magnet in plan with a yoke 2 and limbs 1 'the breadth a of which is greater than the breadth b of the yoke. The cross section of the limbs has a flat portion and a concave portion 5. The magnet may be hollow and filled with granular magnetic material, such as nickel oxides, or with laminations of magnetic metal arranged either longitudinally or transversely in the limb.
