Abstract
521,137. Viewing-apparatus for kinematograph films. ABBOTT, F. F. M. Jan. 19, 1939, No. 1863. [Class 97 (i)] Means for viewing a film in the gate of a kinematograph apparatus comprises a mirror mounted in front of the gate and reflecting to an observing mirror above the gate; the mirror in front of the gate may be concave, or plane and associated with a magnifying lens. As shown, a film 9, fed from a spool 5 through a gate 10 to a spool 8, is viewed in a mirror 36 as reflected by a concave mirror 30 in front of the gate. Struts 28, 34 and a lug 38 engaging a socket 39 support the mirrors, the mirror 30 being carried by pivots 31 bearing wing nuts 32 and passing through the struts 28 into slots 33 in the struts 34. The mirror 30 or a glass sheet protecting it may be partly blacked to prevent aberration. A mirror 25 reflects daylight &c. to the film. The film is fed intermittently by a claw or other mechanism 13 operated by a handle 17 through gears 14, 15 and the spool 8 is driven by a belt 24 and pulleys 21, 23, or by a chain and sprocket wheels. A shutter 19 and flywheel 20 are carried by a spindle 18 of the gear 15.
