Abstract
520,912. Making catamenial napkins. BURGESS, A. F. (International Cellucotton Products Co.). Nov. 4, 1938, No. 32005. [Class 81 (ii)] In a machine for folding over the end flaps of catamenial napkins, the'flaps are carried by a conveyer separate from that carrying the body of the napkin and one flap is folded by relative movement between the conveyers, the other being folded by passage under a stationary member. As illustrated the flaps 22 are carried by transverse members 21 carried by chains 19 disposed at either side of the main conveyers 12, 24, and moving at the same speed. The motion of conveyer 24, however, is periodically interrupted, and the continued motion of the members 21 carries the rear flap over the body of the pad 23 as shown in Fig. 8. When the motion of conveyer 24 is resumed the forward flap, which has been deposited by the members 21 on the fixed element 47, is folded by the passage of the pad under this element. A reciprocating arm 56 holds the pad while the rear flap is folded and then rises to permit it to proceed. The mechanism is suitably incorporated in a machine of the type described in Specification 367,000.
