Abstract
520,521. Multi-stage compressors. MASCHINENFABRIK BURCKHARDT AKT.-GES. Nov. 7, 1938, No. 32285. Convention date, Nov. 9, 1937. [Class 8 (i)] The first and second compression stages take place in a common cylinder 1, the first stage on the side A remote from the crankshaft, while the second stage is effected on the other side B, on which the piston is dished or other provision is made for increasing the clearance. The third and higher stages are effected in spaces C by extensions of the piston, compression in the first and in these higher stages being simultaneous. In a modification, several cylinders of this kind may be disposed in parallel, the first and second stages of compression being shared among the corresponding spaces of the cylinders while the whole of the air passes in succession through the highest stages, one or more of which is provided on each cylinder.
