[Class 17 (i)] A machine for beating a welt and inseam comprises a welt support, a hammer for beating the welt when so positioned, and a second hammer relatively movable with respect to the first and adapted to beat the inseam materials. The hammers are yieldably mounted and the second hammer may be prevented from operating when desired. The machine is of the kind described in Specification 27305/10, [Class 17 (i)], having a welt support 12, a slitting knife 82, and a welt-beating hammer 14 resiliently carried by an arm 28 pivoted at 30 and oscillated by an eccentric 32. A plate 48 carried by the'arm 28 carries the casing 56 of a second hammer 20 having a serrated operative face which engages the inseam when the crease engages the welt support. A cam on a plate which can be swung by a handle 72 raises the hammer 20 to inoperative position, when inseam beating is not required. The hammer 20 is guided by a groove in the hammer 14. Both hammers are urged downwardly by springs to a limit determined by lock-nuts 42 on their stems.
