Abstract
520,347. Heating by circulation of fluids. CORNELL, E. S. Oct. 18, 1938, No. 30188. Convention date, Oct. 28, 1937. [Class 64 (iii)] Hot water is supplied by a boiler 10 to one or more heat exchange units 17 which may be of the kind described in Specification 457,387. A circulating pump 23 may be placed in the return line 14, and may be controlled by a thermostat 24. Boiler feed water is supplied through a pressure - reducing valve 30. and a pressure relief valve 32 is provided. Heat may be transferred from the boiler water, in an exchanger 34. to water which is stored in a tank 38. Thermo-siphonic circulation is controlled by a trap 40, Fig. 2, the outflow passage having a pivoted disc valve 50, which may be prevented from closing fully by an adjusting screw 54. Air is trapped in the space 60 and prevents vibrations in the system. In a modification, Fig. 4, not 'shown, a separate air chamber may be connected to the space 60, and a vent is provided to regulate the water level in the space 60. The water surface should be at least as great as the maximum pipe crosssection. When the valve 50 is closed, the heat exchanger 34 only is in operation. Specification 519,273 also is referred to.
