Abstract

518,516. Furnace fronts. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., and RICHARDSON, A. R. W. July 28, 1938, No. 22528. [Class 51 (i)] In a boiler furnace heated by liquid or solid fuel or by liquid fuel only, an impeller plate 3, Fig. 2, is provided with vanes 5 adapted to rotate the air for combustion adjacent the burner nozzle 1 and a port ring 2 is provided with vanes 4 for rotating the outer portion of the stream of air entering the furnace in the same direction as the air adjacent the burner nozzle is rotated, the burner nozzle and impeller plate being adjustable together longitudinally with the supporting tube 6 which is mounted on the door 10. The burner and port ring are arranged to direct the fuel and air in an upwardly inclined direction over the fuel on the grate. The conical ring 2 is provided with a cylindrical extension 30 and is mounted on a rectangular plate which fits the furnace opening and is detachably secured therein. When the furnace is heated by solid fuel the burner is removed with the port ring and impeller plate and the closure plate 13 in the ashpit is removed while the aperture 14 in the plate 15 is closed.
