518,426. Windscreen-cleaners. LUCAS, Ltd., J., and HAYTON, A. Aug. 25, 1938, No. 25001. [Class 138 (i)] In a windscreen-wiper mechanism of the kind in which a toothed wheel or segment c mounted on the wiper spindle b is oscillated by a reciprocating, flexible, rack d, a bearing for the spindle is provided by a .housing h. The latter is shaped to accommodate the wheel c, and'has a slot i to receive the rack d and the ends of its twopart sheath e. The slot is closed by a removable plate j, in one or two parts, which grips the ends of the sheath and bears against the exposed part of the rack. The part of the housing which receives the wheel c is closed by a disc m. The housing is mounted on a plate n below the windscreen.
