Abstract
518,385. Washing dishes. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 23, 1938, No. 24790. Convention date, Aug. 27, 1937. [Class 138 (i)] In a dish-washing machine comprising a vat 19 having a front opening closed by a door 54 which is hinged at its lower edge, the door has, around its side and top edges a flange 60 which extends into a recess provided in the corresponding edges of the vat, to form an expansion chamber for the' spray produced during operation of the machine. The vat is supported on rails 22 in a cabinet 11 which has a cover 13, front panels 13a, 13b, and a back which is open except for a baffle plate 15. The top 17 of the vat slopes rearwardly to facilitate drainage. The bottom 21 is conical and receives an impeller driven by a motor 40. The water supply pipe 34 terminates in a spray 35. The impeller. Fig. 4, comprises blades 38 carried by an upwardly-tapering skirt member 37. A disc 44 supported above the impeller by a yoke 46 has downwardly and outwardly-inclined blades 45 adapted to cause some of the water from the impeller to pass vertically upwardly through the dish rack 42. The side and top edges of the vat are bent outwardly to form a flange 52 against which the door abuts when closed. The door is carried by hinge arms 55 connected to pivoted links 56a, 56b biassed by balancing springs 56d. The door may be of the construction described in Specification 518,386, and its inner.panel 58 is integral with the flange 60. The latter has a portion 60a which, when the door is closed, lies closely adjacent to the inner wall of the vat, and a second portion 60b which is spaced farther from said wall. The flange is received between the said wall and a strip 62 which is bent as shown and is secured to the wall. The portion 60b forms, with the wall of the vat, an expansion chamber 64, and it may engage a sealing strip 63 of rubber. The lower edge of the door is provided with an inwardly and downwardly extending flange 66 which overlies an inturned flange 65 on the bottom 21 of the vat, to prevent leakage when the door is opened. A sealing strip 67 is provided between these two flanges.
