Abstract

517,848. Sewing-machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., CORRALL, H., and HEGGIE, J. Aug. 11, 1938, No. 23692 [Class 112] In sewing work of varying thickness, such as the insertion and stitching in of an arm scye and the so-called banana, the needle-thread tension is varied with the thickness of the work. An arm 12 is rigidly secured to the top of the presser bar 4 and carries at its lower end an inclined plane 11 which bears upon a stud 9a providing an abutment for the tension spring 8. The inclination of the plane can be adjusted by means of a screw 14. The upper end of the arm 12 is clamped in a transverse slot in a cross-head 18 on the head of the presser bar and when the clamping screw 17 is released the arm can be adjusted transversely to the bar by a fingerlever 16 having a cam slot 21.
