Abstract

516,633. Adjusting wireless apparatus. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 1, 1938, No. 19587. Convention date, July 1, 1937. [Class 37] [Also in Groups XXXVIII, XXXVII and XXIV] In a motor-controlled tuning system for wireless receivers, the tuning device is driven through an epicyclic gearing one element of which is also rotatable by a knob for effecting manual tuning. In one form the gearing is of the usual type including a sun wheel, an intermediate planetgear coupled to the tuning device and a ring gear driven by the motor. Manual tuning is effected by rotation of the sun gear. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the tuning device is driven from a pulley 77 provided on a race 76 for balls 75 which co-operate with an outer race 78 adapted to be driven by a motor and a conical surface 74 on the manual adjustment shaft: The ratio of drive by the shaft is automatically altered after a predetermined rotation of the knob, by a cam surface 80 which through an arm 82 shifts the shaft longitudinally and releases the balls. Thereafter the drive is effected through the arm and a projection 81 on the cam surface.
