[Class 15 (i)] Streams of air or other pressure fluid are introduced into the liquor contained in a vat for dyeing, bleaching or washing yarn in time relation to the discharge of air or other pressure fluid through perforations in yarn supporting poles to raise the yarn and prevent pole marking. A vat and swift as described in Specification 507,763 is provided with a piston valve # provided in its peripheral wall with ports for establishing communication between pipes 18 and 38 which supply pressure fluid from a supply pipe 43 to perforated pipes 17 arranged around the sides of the vat near the base and the yarn supporting poles 29 respectively. The piston valve is driven by a motor 45 through gearing in a casing 46 and introduces air or other fluid into the vat through the pipes 17 in any desired manner or cycle to agitate the liquor when the air supply to the poles 29 is interrupted. Plates 14 spaced from the walls of the vat form therewith circulation compartments in which the perforated pipes 17 are arranged to set up a circulation of liquor over the weirs formed by the tops of the plates 14 between the main treatment compartment and the circulation compartments. The base of the main treatment compartment is formed by narrow plates 18a provided with perforations, the spacing of which is graduated from the sides towards the centre to equalize the circulation of liquor across the horizontal section of the compartment. Steam to heat the contents of the vat may be admitted through perforated pipes 19, the discharge of steam being reduced when the desired temperature has been reached and thereafter intermittent or continuous during the treatment process.
