Abstract
515,575. Screw propellers., SOC. ANON. ALFA ROMEO. June 7, 1938, No. 16785. Convention date, June 5, 1937. [Class 114] In variable-pitch airscrews, the pitch-actuating mechanism comprises an adjustable gearing of which one sun planet is secured to the propeller boss and the other is free therein and coupled to the blade root whilst connected to this is a planet gearing of which one member normally stationary is adjustable. Upon the boss a of a propeller which is keyed to its shaft is secured a pinion f, whilst free on the boss is a pinion e having a bevel extension d which meshes with a bevel wheel c on the blade root b. Connecting these two sun wheels is a planetary system comprising pinions h, i, l and a supporting cage therefor. A central pinion o on a shaft n normally stationary is supported also in the carrier of the sun pinions. When stationary the whole system rotates so that there is no relative movement between the bevel wheel d and bevel c, but adjustment of shaft n and pinion o results in relative. movement and consequent pitch adjustment.
