Abstract

515,073. Four-stroke engines. CHANG, C. June 2, 1938, No. 16456. [Class 7 (ii)] In an engine with its cylinder rotating about its own axis, inlet and exhaust are controlled by a stationary ring R having inlet ports I<1>, I<2> and exhaust ports E<1>, E<2> co-operating with ports P<1>, P<2> in the cylinder, gas and oil leakage being prevented by thin steel tongues secured around the walls of the cylinder ports. Each port is divided into two by strips Ba, Ta of metal. The cylinder is rotated by a gear wheel J, and runs on ball bearings B arranged between a flange on the cylinder and two halfrings K screwed into the crank case. U-shaped springs S are arranged above and below the ring R, and the whole secured by a retaining- ring N. Cooling-fins formed with holes H extend between the ports on the ring R. The exhaust ports E<1>, E<2> are lined with quartz.
