Abstract

514,882. Making anodes for electric discharge tubes; soldering. VEREINIGTE GLUHLAMPEN UND ELEKTRIZITATS AKT.-GES. Feb. 16, 1938, No. 4838. Void. Convention date, Feb. 16, 1937. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] In electric discharge tubes having anodes provided with cooling ribs and formed from a number of parts secured together, thin bands of solder are laid between the metal parts to be united and the parts then heated to a temperature above the melting point of the solder. For ease of handling the parts may be united at a few points by welding-after the solder has been placed between them. When the anodes are made of nickel, copper is used as the soldering metal and the soldering temperature is above 1,100‹ C., preferably produced in an electric furnace filled with hydrogen. In order to prevent the solder from spreading outwards the surfaces to be joined are preferably made convex at their edges.
