513,588. Piling material in bulk. PRENDERGAST, E. J. and TOWER, E. B. H. March 15,1938, No. 8029. Convention date, March 15, 1937. [Class 78 (iv)] [Also in Group XXI] In beach maintaining means, sand &c. piled up by the action of currents on one side of a jetty or groin is transferred by a pump to the lee side of the jetty or of a second parallel jetty to make up the consequential deficiency on that side. In the example shown, two jetties have a harbour entrance 3 between them. Sand is collected by the suction nozzle 8 on the windward side of one jetty and passes through the electrically driven pump 4 and transfer pipe 9 to discharge pipes 6 on the lee side of the other jetty. The transfer pipe 9 is carried by a bridge 10 or may be led across the channel under water. The nozzle suction pipe is connected to the pump by a flexible section which allows it to sweep round within a circular area 7.
