Abstract

513,445. Two-part couplings; fusible cutouts. REYROLLE & CO., Ltd., A., and CLOTHIER, G. D. April 9, 1938, No. 10904. [Class 38 (i)] A contact device for fitting into a socket,and for connection to a fuse, cable &c. comprises a split plug portion 1, 2 for entering the socket 16 and a split gripping portion 3 for engaging the fuse &c., wedging devices co-operating with both portions so as simultaneously to expand the plug and contract the gripping portion. The wedge 8 fitting between inclined surfaces 5 within the plug 1, 2 is screw-threaded on a rod 7 that runs through a bore in the contact device to a knob 10. Loosely mounted on the rod 7 is a collar 9 having inclined surfaces that fit over tapered projections 6 on the member 3 so that as the knob is turned the wedge 8 is raised and the collar 9 pressed down simultaneously. A cap 13 and a spring 12 retain the parts loosely together when the knob 10 is unscrewed. The gripping member 3 may be formed as a cup to grip the end cap of a fuse. cartridge, or it may be adapted to receive other conductors such as a flat fuse or link or a cable inserted in the recesses 14. When used as a fuse holder, a pair of contact members, one of which may be adjustable longitudinally, are mounted in a housing that fits against a panel having apertures above the sockets 16. Openings in the ends of the housing may be provided for ventilation. 'According to the Provisional Specification the apertures may be covered with gauze.
