Abstract

512,609. Electric tests for sensory conditions. ROTHERAM, W. Jan. 21, 1938, No. 1998. [Class 81 (ii)] For ascertaining the sensory condition, e.g. of a tooth, one electrode i is held by the patient while another electrode h is formed as a brush of comparatively soft conducting wires h fused into a glass handle, so that when. applied to the tooth the mere physical contact thereof causes no sensation. The electrodes are connected in the anode circuit of a triode a the grid and anode circuits of which are inductively coupled at e to produce oscillations. The rheostat d is then operated to increase the filament and therefore the anode current until the patient is conscious of sensations in the tooth, this position of the rheostat indicating the degree of sensibility. The apparatus and necessary batteries b, c are preferably housed in a portable case. The apparatus may alternatively be worked off a mains supply.
