Abstract

511,992. Desulphurizing iron. BRASSERT & CO., Ltd., H. A. (Andrews, C. W., and Rudolf, H. T.). April 7, 1938, No. 10694. [Class 72] In a process for desulphurizing iron, soda is placed in a heated ladle and when it is heated limestone is added, molten iron being then poured into the ladle before any material decomposition of the limestone takes place. If desired fluorspar may be added to the soda before it is placed in the ladle, and then of the mixture of soda and fluorspar one-fourth to one-sixth is fluorspar and the weight of the limestone is greater than that of the mixture. In an example, 60 per cent. of limestone, 30 of soda and 10 of fluorspar are used. Specification 482,820 is referred to.
