Abstract
511,173. Mechanical presses. KLING, M. Nov. 10, 1937, No. 30833. Void. Convention date, Nov. 10, 1936. [Class 87 (ii)] The screw 2 of a press is rotated in a fixed nut 3 by a handwheel 9 carrying a planet pinion 7 meshing with a wheel 5 fixed to the housing 1 and with a wheel 4 mounted on a sleeve 12 splined on the screw. The hand-wheel is mounted loosely on the sleeve. The screw 2 may be rotated quickly by raising the handwheel until a projection 11 on the sleeve 12 enters a notch 10 in the hand-wheel, thereby disconnecting the pinion 7 from the wheel 4 and permitting the hand-wheel to rotate with the screw. The axle of the pinion 7 may be mounted on an arm connected to the handwheel by a spring the tension of which causes a pointer to move over a scale to indicate the torque applied to the hand-wheel.
