510,591. Motor-vehicle frames. STEYRDAIMLER-PUCH AKT.-GES. Nov. 30, 1937, No. 13726/39. Convention date, Oct. 26. Divided out of 508,942. [Class 79 (iv)] A chassis frame for military and other vehicles intended for cross-country travel &c. comprises a pair of longitudinal members 14 with increased vertical depth in the wheel-regions where they are connected to transverse members or crossheads 16 of inverted U-shaped cross section extending the width of the vehicle, the underside of the longitudinals being closed by metal sheets forming an apron. The structure provides protection from contact with ground obstacles for driving, steering, wheel suspension &c. elements enclosed thereby. The engine is preferably arranged on the forward crosshead, laterally of the driver's seat and steering controls may be provided at each end of the vehicle, both as described in Specification 508,942.
