Abstract
509,226. Power hammers. EUMUCO AKT.-GES. FUR MASCHINENBAU. Nov. 26, 1938, No. 34528. Convention date, Nov. 29, 1937. [Class 83 (iv)] A power hammer has two oppositely moving coacting heads 1, 2 actuated by a rocking crank or cranks 10 and a connecting-rod 11 or rods so that the impact and reversal of crank movement occur before the crank or cranks reach a dead-centre. The crank-shaft is off-set from the axis of the heads by an amount equal to its throw and the power stroke starts with the crank at the top dead-centre. The shaft is driven by means of oppositely rotating friction clutches under pneumatic control and is declutched before striking the blow. A fly-wheel is provided on the shaft and coiled springs 8, 9 are provided in the heads. Abutments are provided to limit the travel of the crank, the lower abutment functioning only if the connecting-rod is broken.
