Abstract

507,415. Air-raid shelters. EHLERS, M. MUELLER-. Nov. 11, 1937, No. 31045. [Class 20 (i)] A bomb- and gas-proof shelter comprises a building with superposed floors 3 disposed around a central shaft 5, provided with apertures 6 at each floor level, a helical footway 2 disposed inwardly from the internal face of the outer wall and communicating with each floor, and a conical top. Entrances to the building are provided at the ground level, and seats 9 may be provided attached to the wall around the footway and at each floor level. The central shaft is provided with wall irons 7 for climbing and is fitted with a raisable hood so that it can be used as a ventilating shaft for the. building. In a modification, the spiral footway extends over the whole of the space between the outer wall and the central shaft. To provide access to the building in the event of the lower entrances becoming blocked, climbing irons may be attached to the outer wall and gangways disposed at different levels to provide alternative means of entrance and exit. An observation platform may be fitted at the upper end of the central shaft. Specifications 8100/11 and 185,944, [both in Class 20 (i)], (Class 20 (i) ) are referred to.
