[Class 69 (iii)] [Also in Group XVI] In spraying-apparatus of the type in which a needle valve 18 controlling a jet nozzle 15 is operated by a piston 3 in a separate chamber 2 supplied with compressed air, a duct 29 opening into the chamber 2 and controlled by the piston 3 supplies the compressed air to the nozzle 15. The apparatus is used for spraying printed sheets issuing from a printing-machine, which controls a valve in the air supply pipe 8 or drives a pump supplying the quantity of air necessary for each spraying operation. The piston 3 is acted on by a spring 5 the tension of which is regulated by a screw cap 6, and operates the needle valve 18 through a rod 4 acting on the free end of a stirrup 26 pivoted at 27 to a standard 20 and carrying screws 28 co-operating with an adjustable disc 24 on the stem of the valve. The valve is closed before the piston 3 closes the duct 29 so that the formation of drops is prevented. Liquid is supplied from a reservoir 13 through a valve 11 to a chamber 9 surrounding the needle valve 18. A spring 23 closes the needle valve and a screw 30 regulates the maximum opening. To clean the jet the standard 20 together with the needle is removed, the adjustments 24, 30 being unaffected.
