Abstract
504,689. Testing coins. LABOUROT, L. C. July 6, 1938, No. 19995. Convention date, July 12, 1937. [Class 27] A device for selecting coins for coinfreed machines and other uses comprises a runner 6, Fig. 1, slidable on a guide 3, 4 mounted on a front plate 1 having an aperture 11 through which the runner passes. The coin is placed with its effigy uppermost in an aperture 7 in the runner which is pushed in carrying the coin with it until the coin comes over a disc 26, Fig. 4, on the end of a lever 23 which is hinged at 22 to a carriage 16 slidable on a dovetailed guide 17. A spring 24 urges the lever 23 upwardly and normally holds tlie carriage 16 against the front plate 1. Further inward movement of the runner moves the carriage 16 inwardly so that the end 27 of the lever 23 disengages an incline 28 on the guide 3 and is moved up until a lug 29 thereon abuts against the carriage. This movement presses the top of the coin against projections 14 on feelers 12 pivoted at 13 to the carriage and guided by grid 21. If the coin is correct the fillersare moved 'varying distances so that their free ends can pass through staggered slots in a plate 31 adjustably secured to a flap 32 which is pivoted at 33 to the fixed guide 17. The disc 26 is provided with small points to engage the lower surface of the coin. Further inward movement of the carriage causes an upstanding lug 40 on the lever 23 to meet an arm 38a of a lever 38 which is pivoted at 39 to the guide 17 and which is also connected by a pivot pin 36 to an arm 35 integral with the flap 32. The lever arm 38a causes the lever 23 to rock downwardly to discharge the coin to a shoot 2 leading to the releasing mechanism of a coin-freed machine or to a receptacle. If the coin is not correct, the feelers 12 will not be moved the proper distance and so cannot pass through the plate 31 which will be rocked to move the lever arm 38a out of the path of the lug 40. The lever 23 accordingly will not be rocked and the incorrect coin is returned by pulling out the runner to its initial position.
