Abstract
294,807. Hansen, H. C. Oct. 22, 1927. Coin action, mechanical-connection; testing edge for milling.- In a coin-freed vending machine of the kind having mechanism for distinguishing between coins having milled-edges and those with smooth edges, the milled-edge coins freeing the machine, the coin 60 inserted through a shoot 1, Fig. 1, drops to a passage-way 2, Fig. 2, where it rests on rollers 9 and acts as a pinion to transmit the downward movement of a toothed rack 19 to a rack 14 carried by a bar 10 which is connected to the releasing mechanism. The rack 19 is mounted on a lever 20, 21 controlled by a spring 27 and pivoted on a bar 22 which is connected to the opening member or drawer of the machine. At the beginning of the opening movement of the delivery member, the bar 22 begins to move down and the rack 19 leaves a stop 29<1> so that it is swung forwardly into engagement with the coin which it moves into engagement with the rack 14. Rotation) of the coin then moves the rack 14 up to actuate the releasing mechanism which permits full downward movement of the bar 22. The rack 14 is held in its uppermost position by a spring catch 16 until this is released by a cam 61 on the bar 22 at the end of the return movement of the latter. During the downward movement of the bar 22, a bevel 52 on a frame 53 carried by it engages a pin 51 on a lever 47, 48 so that the arm 47 raises the rear plate 5 of the passage-way 2 by engaging a pin 50 thereon. The plate 5, which swings on links 6, engages the short arm 56, Fig. 2, of a lever 55, 56 and moves the end 58 of the long arm 55 into the passage-way 21 to push the coin out into a shoot 46. The bar 22 also carries a cam 37 - - 40 against which is pressed by a spring a pin 36 on an arm 35 extending from a flap pivoted at 33. The flap is thereby moved, with rests when the pin 36 engages the parts 37, 39, from left to right in the funnel 43. When the pin 36 engages the part 39 the flap closes the shoot 46 into which the coin is then pushed. When the flap moves further, the coin drops into the funnel and is guided down the shoot 44 to the money-box. If a smooth-edged coin is used, the rack 14 is not moved and the bar 22 cannot be pulled down to its full extent. It moves only far enough for the flap 34 to close the shoot 46 containing the coin. When the bar is pushed back to restore the parts, the coin is guided down the shoot 45 out of the machine.
