[Class 40 (iii)] [Also in Group XX] The exposure time of a negative for photographic printing is determined by the output of a cell 12 receiving light passing through the negative 11, the light being restricted to the spectral range actinic for the paper. Thus, filters may be placed at any point in the system and the filters may be changed to suit different papers. Preferably, a graded filter 9 is employed and is moved iri unison with the movable arm of a variable resistance 8 controlling the current through the lamp 10. The lamp may contain sodium vapour or copper compounds so as to emit only an actinic light.
