Abstract
503,182. Elastic - - fluid turbines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 14, 1938, No. 26847. Convention date, Sept. 15, 1937. [Class 110,(iii)] A heat exchanger, within a conduit 19 leading between high and low pressure elements 3, 13 of a steam turbine, is connected to the high-pressure element near the exhaust end so that the heat is sufficient to re-evaporate the moisture in the conduit without superheating the exhaust steam. Surplus heat may be utilized in a second heat-exchanger 25 for the boiler feed-water. The first heat-exchanger comprises banks of tubes 20 connected by headers mounted in a welded sheet-metal casing surrounding the low-pressure element 13 and forming the exhaust housing 11, plates 33 ... 35 surrounding the rotors 14, 15 and defining the steam-supply chamber 36 for element 13. The casing may be welded or fused to'the casing of the high-pressure element 3.
