[Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group XXXV] In a regulating system, current in a circuit is regulated by a gas or vapour discharge path 5 connected in the circuit and provided with means 6, 7 for producing a magnetic field varying with the current in the circuit to control the instant of ignition or internal impedance of the device 5. The field may be produced by a winding arranged to purround the anode or the cathode of the device 5 and, if desired, disposed inside the envelope. The device may have a directly or indirectly heated glowing cathode or a cold or hot mercury cathode and the anode may be formed of graphite. The device may be provided with an additional magnetizing coil carrying a separate exciting current.
