Abstract
502,632. Indicating. BLACK, G. J. F. Dec. 31, 1937, No. 36211. [Class 78 (v)] A readily inspected indicator is applied to colliery and like winding-engine control devices which comprise a profile member connected to a centrifugal governor and co-operating with a rotary and axially movable wheel &c. to' apply a brake &c. when the wheel and profile strike one another due to incorrect running speed. A viewing disc j bearing a line mark m co-related in form to the profile edge of the governor actuated member b is oscillated by bevel gearing t from a spindle s carrying a sprocket wheel o over which passes an endless chain n connected by a coupling r to the shaft f which carries the notched wheel g which cooperates with the profile member b. The shaft f is driven by the engine and advances by reason of a screw-thread thereon engaging a fixed nut h, and as the disc j slowly turns a pointer k, carried by an extension i from the profile member support d, keeps its tip on the line m, if the correct moment to moment speed is attained, by the action of the governor a. In n modification, the disc j is replaced by a sliding panel bearing the display mark, or by a rotary cylinder which may be mounted on the spindle s. In a further form, the pointer and disc &c. are dispensed with, and a shadow of the profile member and notched wheel is optically projected on a screen.
