Abstract

502,417. Wind motors. LEAN, C. (Honnef, H.) Sept. 16, 1937, No. 25204. [Class 110 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXV] In a wind driven electric generator having pole systems mounted directly on large wind wheels, the rotating part of the current collecting device for each wheel is carried independently of the wheel on the same axis but in a separate bearing and is resiliently connected to the wind wheel. The axle consists of a latticed steel tube 8 around which are mounted four annular double rails 9 on which rest carriages 14-17 carried by oppositely rotating wind wheels 4, 5. Wheels 19, 20 situated between the set of rails co-operate with rings 18 on the wind wheels to take end thrust. The commutators or slip rings 23, 24 are of disc form, are mounted on separate bearings 21, 22 and are mechanically connected to the wind wheels by resilient elements 28. Flexible leads are used for the electrical connections. The wheels may be braked by short-circuiting the windings. In order to avoid passage of short-circuit currents through the collecting devices, a switch for this purpose is mounted on the wheel and is actuated electromagnetically, so that the current collecting device has. only to carry the switch actuating current. The short-circuiting switch may be centrifugally operated to include resistance in the short-circuit when the speed is high and to reduce this resistance as the speed falls.
