Abstract
502,236. Rotary engines. BAUME & MARPENT SOC. ANON. Sept. 2, 1938, Nos. 25780 and 25781. Convention dates, Sept. 9, 1937 and June 22, 1938. [Class 110(ii)] A rotary engine or pump having vanes 5, mounted on a central shaft 7, which slide between semicircular bearings 9 in a rotor 3, is provided with means to balance the centrifugal forces acting on the bearings. A weight 15, Fig. 1, is attached at one end of a cranked lever 12, which is connected by a link 11 with a half-bearing 9. The lever 12 is pivoted on a bracket 14 which is secured inside the rotor 3. The bearings 9 may contain roller bearings to engage the recesses in the rotor, and the sides of the vanes. The link 11 may be attached at the centre of gravity of a bearing 9. The mass 15 may slide in a slot cut from the rotor, as shown in Fig. 7, where two half bearings 9 are balanced by one weight 15. The end of the link 13 may be rounded and engage a slot in the side of a bearing 9. Helical or leaf springs may be used in place of the weight 15, one end of a spring being attached to the rotor.
