Abstract
501,738. Hydraulic transmission of power; valve gear. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMOTIV-UND MASCHINENFABRIK. Aug. 30, 1937, No. 23663. Convention date, Sept. 2, 1936. [Class 69 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVII] A hydraulic telemotor system, of the kind in which the transmitting piston is reciprocated intermittently but at regular intervals so as to impart a regular but intermittent movement to the receiver piston and therefore to the member actuated thereby, comprises a passage for venting of the system, which communicates with the system at the topmost point of the latter, and a control member for opening and closing said passage ; the control member is a separate member from the primary piston and is moved to its closing position before the primary piston commences to move on its transmitting stroke and is not moved to its opening position until after the primary piston has come to rest on completion of its return stroke. The transmitting piston c, Fig. 1, is reciprocated by cam a on shaft b, a crank pin n on the latter reciprocating through connecting rod k<3> the control member k; during inoperative periods, the member k opens the passage o to permit venting of the system, and also opens a passage r through which liquid is forced by pump p also operated from the cam shaft, so as to flush the system and replenish leakage losses, the excess liquid returning to the reservoir u by pipe s; a relief valve w is provided; when the system is for actuating the valves of an internal combustion or other piston engine, the flushing liquid may be supplied by the lubricating pump of said engine. In a four stroke engine the two systems for actuating the inlet and outlet valves have a common control member. In a further modification, Fig. 4, downward movement of the control member k has a suction effect on liquid in the reservoir e, and when the passages o<1>, o<2> are uncovered, make-up liquid passes by gravity into the two systems, the air rising as bubbles and being vented.
