Abstract

501,114. Valve generating and modulating circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. July 1, 1938, No. 19674. Convention date, Aug. 5, 1937. [Class 40 (v)] In a frequency multiplier space current is arranged to flow in the discharge device for a substantial portion, preferably during 180‹, of each cycle of the base frequency and means are provided to apply to an additional grid the harmonic frequency in phase opposition to the anode voltage. Fig. 2 shows a pentode with the input applied to the control grid and the output circuit 11, 12 tuned to a harmonic. Energy at the multiplied frequency is applied to the screen grid, the steady potential being adjusted by resistance 20 or supplied through a choke. As shown, a modulation voltage may be applied to the suppressor grid. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement for producing odd harmonics in which the screen grids are fed from tappings on the tuned circuit 26, 27. In a modification, even harmonics are produced, Fig. 4 (not shown), in which case the output is taken from the anodes in parallel and the feedback to the screen grids is also in parallel.
