Abstract
499,528. Exhaust-silencers. RIVARDE, A., and UPWARD, A. R. Oct. 26, 1937, No. 29211. [Class 7 (ii)] A silencer comprises a square or other flatsided tube a in the sides of which are cut tongues b past which the exhaust escapes, the outer end of the tube being closed. The lift of the tongues may be adjusted by a sliding ring which is held in position by a screw m. Two or more tubes may be arranged in series in an outer casing having an inlet at one end and an outlet at the other end, the tubes being spaced apart by pins i on their end plates d, and the gases passing into the expansion chambers thus formed by means of apertures h cut in the plates d. A tray-shaped baffle may be placed inside the casing opposite the inlet, so as to intercept particles of lubricant or other foreign matter, the tray being detachable for cleaning.
