Abstract

Toilet creams and lotions intended for use in neutralizing acid secretions on the skin comprise glycerine, glycols or the like and/or oils or fatty substances and a weak solution of a mild alkali together with an indicator, sensitive between pH6 and 8, for the purpose of showing the effect of the lotion &c. by means of its colour change. A bleaching compound, e.g. a perborate, inactive except in presence of an acid, may be added to the preparations. A suitable lotion comprises 90 parts water, 1 part brom-thymol blue, 2 parts bicarbonate of soda, 2 parts sodium perborate, 5 parts glycerine. A cream may be made by adding oils and an emulsifier to the lotion.
