Abstract

498,308. Locking nuts and bolts. WALLGREN, A. G. F. July 5, 1937, No. 18644. Convention date, July 17, 1936. [Class 89 (i)] A locking device for nuts, bolts, screws, &c. comprises a hard washer 2 having projections 5 which bite into the work and a soft washer 7, the edges of which are bent over at 11 and 12 to engage flats on the hard washer and nut. The projections may be radial ribs with adjacent grooves 6. The washer 7 may be tackwelded to the nut and flanged at 8 to prevent its separation from the washer 2. In a modification for locking a screw having a conical head 15, Fig. 6, the soft washer 7 has its smaller end bent over the hard washer 2, and its larger end has a part 12 bent in against a flat on the screw-head and another part (not shown) bent over the hexagonally-shaped larger end of the washer 2. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a locking device for a set-screw 20, Fig. 9 (Cancelled), which consists of a pin 24 located in a central bore of the screw. A head 23 on the pin has a projecting rib 5, and the pin-extends into the driver slot 25 in which it is bent over after the screw has been driven. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
