Abstract
497,055. Driving-gear for mixing-machines. NEAL & CO., Ltd., R. H. (Faure, J.) June 7, 1937, No. 15708. [Class 86] [Also in Group XXIV] A self-contained driving-gear unit for concrete &c. mixing machines comprises a driving shaft 5 connected to the flywheel 8 of a prime mover, a transversely arranged driven shaft 16 for rotating the mixing drum 25 in either direction and a second driven shaft 6 for imparting a drive to a pulley 9 to operate a feed hopper. A pinion 10 on the driving shaft 5 drives a gearwheel 11 freely-mounted on a fixed shaft 4 and secured to a bevel wheel 13 which drives freelymounted bevel wheels 14 on the shaft 16 in opposite directions. A clutch member 17 keyed to the shaft 16 is adapted to engage friction surfaces on the bevel gears 14 for effecting the drive of the shaft 16 in either direction, which drive is transmitted to the drum 25 through a pinion 24 gearing with teeth 25a. Rollers 26 are mounted upon the ends of the shaft 16 for supporting the mixing drum. The shaft 6 is driven through a gear 30 from a pinion 29 which is formed on a sleeve 28 loosely mounted on the fixed shaft 4 and carrying friction cones 27, 32 co-operating with friction surfaces 12, 31 on the gear wheel 11 and the casing respectively so that it can be clutched to the gear wheel 11, or braked, by movement in opposite direction. The pulley 9 can thus be controlled to raise the feed hopper by winding up a wire rope attached thereto or to lower it under its own weight under control of the brake 32, 31.
