Abstract

497,027. Win dscreencleaners; securing wiper arms on shafts. LUCAS Ltd., J., and SHAW, F. T. June 11, 1937 Nos. 16202 and 19869. [Class 138 (i)] [Also in Group XXIV] The wiper arm is secured on the actuating spindle by means of a sleeve on the arm and a split bush, rotation of a nut causing coacting inclined surfaces to tighten the bush on the spindle. As shown in Fig. 2, the wiper arm c is pivoted to a sleeve a having an inclined surface j co-operating with an inclined surface k on a split bush f which is slipped on the spindle b. When a nut is screwed on to the reduced end of the bush, the latter is tightened on the spindle. A key h prevents relative rotation of the sleeve and bush. The bush may engage a circumferentially-grooved part or a collar on the spindle. In a modification, Fig. 5, the sleeve has a second inclined surface 'In cooperating with the inclined outer surface n of the nut to tighten the latter on the bush. One Provisional Specification describes a construction in which the nut is screwed on to the spindle and expands the bush so that the latter grips the sleeve, the bush having a positive connection with the spindle.
