Abstract

496,416. Screw fans. AXIA FANS, Ltd., (formerly WINSOR AXIA FANS, Ltd.), and AKESTER, J. C. July 14, 1937, No. 19532. [Class 110 (i)] [Also in Group X] In the ventilation of apartments especially on board ship, one or more fans are arranged in each apartment to induce air through the space between the ceiling and the floor or deck above, either to or from the atmosphere direct, or from a low pressure forced draught system. Rooms 6, 7, 8 are fed by fans 19 with air from low pressure trunk 10 leading from a fan 11 which may be of the kind described in Specification 494,987. Suitable induction fans for the rooms are described in Specifications 476,724 and 442,469 and the air is distributed by annular louvres 31 and a disc 32 which may be concave or convex when viewed from below. Each fan may be mounted on a plate 26 which is hinged at 27 to a frame 28 secured to the ceiling so that it may be lowered for attention to the motor 24. The fan may be closed by moving axially the air distributing devices so that these are in peripheral contact with the end of the fan casing.
