Abstract

496,325. Street lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., MOORE, H. A., and MAINWARING, A. W. Nov. 2, 1937, No. 29985. [Class 75 (iv)] A street lighting or like fitting comprises a member formed to direct the light in preferred planes surrounded closely by a surface having appreciable reflectance arranged substantially perpendicular to at least one of the preferred planes. The street lighting fitting shown has a globe 1 carrying vertical prisms directing the light preferentially in a plane perpendicular to the figure and a light-coloured mat plane surface 3 closely surrounding the globe. If the preferred planes on the two sides of the fitting are not the same, two separate mat surfaces may be provided. The reflecting surface, if not plane, is preferably concave to the observer.
